Washington, Oct 30 -
CANNON LED INTERNET TAX MORATORIUM BILL HEADED TO THE PRESIDENT
WASHINGTON DC – Congressman Chris Cannon (R-UT), released the following statement after the House passed H.R.3678, the “Conyers - Cannon Internet Tax Moratorium” extension for another seven (7) years (concurring with the Senate amendments) and sent it to the President:
“While many of us had hoped to make the moratorium permanent, this extension will protect this burgeoning economic engine from the stifling hand of government. We cannot allow our internet bill to look like our phone bills, full of fees, taxes, and other charges. This legislation will now give us seven years for the internet to grow tax-free and further demonstrate why the free market works. I will continue to seek a permanent moratorium in the years to come as well as the overall reduction and elimination of unnecessary taxes.”
Along with Congressman Cannon and Judiciary Chairman Conyers (D-MI), co-sponsors of HR 3678 passed today include; Rep. Issa (R-CA), Rep. Sensenbrenner (R-PA), Rep. Boucher (D-VA), Rep. Sanchez (D-CA), and Rep. Watt (D-NC).
- Congressman Cannon has been recognized by the National Taxpayers Union with the “Taxpayers Friend Award” and was ranked the 17th most fiscally conservative member of the 435 member House of Representatives in 2006 by the non-partisan National Journal.
- Citizens Against Government Waste gave Congressman Cannon the highest score in the entire Utah delegation, scoring a 77 percent fiscal conservative record.
- Americans for Tax Reform made Congressman Cannon the ONLY “Hero of the Taxpayer” award winner in the entire Utah delegation for his consistent votes against raising taxes.
